Uber for Business to Accept AirPlus Accounts

Business travelers have a new way of getting around, with Uber for Business now accepting German FinTech Airplus International’s AirPlus Company Account.

The account is a corporate expense solution that allows employees to book and pay for their travel and accommodation via a single unified account, per a Tuesday (Nov. 8) press release. AirPlus then combines the expenses in a combined electronic statement for easy reconciliation.

With the new Uber integration, in addition to flights and train tickets, AirPlus customers are able to request a ride via the Uber app. They can also charge other Uber for Business services such as food deliveries to their AirPlus account.

Billing is settled via the global payment network Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP), of which AirPlus is a member.

Acceptance of AirPlus on the Uber platform will begin in the U.S. and the Eurozone, but rollouts in Mexico and Australia are planned next. The offering will also be expanded to markets where the Uber app is available and where AirPlus operates, per the release.

FinTech solutions that enable better expense management have gained significant traction in recent years and offer advantages for both employers and employees.

For employers, improved transparency and oversight can help reduce company-wide tail spend while streamlining accounting processes. This is critical as a recent PYMNTS and Airbase study, “The Financial Performance Quandary Report,” found that 47% of firms surveyed experienced data entry errors when managing non-payroll spending.

At the same time, employees can also benefit from tools like the AirPlus Company Account. Workers save time by not having to save receipts and file lengthy expense reports, and such platforms can also reduce the need for out-of-pocket spending.

“With the AirPlus Company Account as a central billing account, companies have already been able to pay for air and rail travel, rental cars and hotel bookings,” Oliver Wagner, CEO of AirPlus, said in the press release.

“By integrating with Uber Wallet, companies will now benefit from bundled billing and reporting for rides with Uber and other Uber solutions as well […] From now on, corporate travelers can easily request their rides through the Uber app while the payment will be handled centrally and automatically via the AirPlus Company Account,” he added.
